What is Matariki? Matariki has always been an important time in the Maori calender. The legend: The story happened when there was a mum and three kids that were girls. They started to fight and the tree girl pushed the mother and father apart. So that they were trapped. The father was the sky and he was called Ranginui. The mother was the earth and she was called pupatuanuku. And the mother and father started to cried so the other sister felt sorry for them and she was the lightning and she stared to cry. And her tears became the 7 stars .
