Please read the following article:

Do you think this was fair?  On one hand, the law is the law and who is to say we can bend it for certain individuals?  ... but on the other hand, imagine a Grandma who follows the law in every other sense and just got a bit confused - should such a hard line be drawn?

What do you think?  State if you agree or disagree with Mrs van den Bogaart's fine and explain your thinking.  (See comments)

What interesting results - 5 of you said she should still have to pay and 10 said Mrs van den Bogaart should be let off her fine.

  1. I think Mrs Ana vanden Bogaart should not be fined because she should have got a disability permit in her mail. I still understand that its the law and if it happens again she should be fined.

  2. I think that Mrs Anna Vanden Bogard should not be fined this i50 dollars. Because she is 86 years old and she didn't get a warning because it obviously got mixed up it in the post. But I still understand that it is the law. But if something similar happens again she should be fined

  3. I think it isn't fair because the 86 year old is old and can not read sometimes.Sometimes old ladies forget about it when they're older and when they're younger they can see and read.

  4. I disagree, she should not have to pay because she is in the age of forgetfulness. I do understand the other side of the story yes it is the law and she should remember to check it even if she has to write a sticky note to put on her fridge. She is old and forgets things she does not deserve to pay this fine

  5. I disagree because she is old and everyone should get let off once .But I understand that Mrs Anna did break the law but she and she is 86 she is in the age of forgetfulness

  6. I think she shouldn't be fined because she can't remember most things. She's old and she didn't know that her parking mobility card was expired. Also she didn't get most money and wouldn't be able to pay it off. It would be sad to her so that's my opinion for an86 year old lady.

  7. I agree, she should be fined, because she should make it a habit that she checks her mobility license often and it would be fair for everyone because if they let her off with the fine all the other people before will complain about their fine why they shouldn't pay. But I understand why Mrs Anna Vanden Bogaart shouldn't pay the fine because she has lots of disabilities and the license didn't get sent properly and she is already disabled so whats the point of having that license!

  9. I agree, she should be fined because she should have a habit of having to check her mobility license and it would be fair for the other people who got fined. If we let her off, the other people who got fined will complain about why they shouldn't pay their fine. but i understand why some people think we should let Mrs Anna Vanden Bogaart off because she has heaps of disabilities and she says shes forgetful at this kind of age.

  10. I don't think that she should get fined because she's 86. I do see the other side to the story as well because the rules are the rules but I think It's her first time breaking the law so she should just get a warning then If she does this again then she get a fine. But right now she should not get a fine!

  11. I agree that Mrs Anna Vaden Bogard
should be fined.because my Grandma speeded and was old so she can not drive any more.
But I do understand that she is forgetful of the law and is 86 years old!

  12. i think she should not be fined because she did not know. There was also a mix up in the post, so she was not notified that her permit had expired. She should have been given a warning. But I think next time she should be fined.

  13. I don't really think she should get the fined because she is 86 that is an old age and beside she is an elderly, they are forgetful about things like a mobility permit parking.

  14. I don't think she should get a fined because she's old, a 86 year old person you don't expect her to look at her mobility permit at a perfect time and relies it needs changing. People around that age forget easily. Plus she wouldn't lie about her knees and hips

  15. I think that Mrs Anna van den Bogaart deserves the fine because the law is the law and if she can get away with it then why can't everyone else?
She should regularly check her permit so it can become a habit. A lot people get fines, including old people and they can't get away with it, so it's fair. I still understand all her frustration and I understand her side of the story.

  16. Some great thinking in there everyone! I like that so many of you have referred back to the article directly to find evidence and justify your opinion. You all have obviously thought hard about your stance and some of you have looked for the other perspective as well. I'm impressed by the depth of the discussion today!!
