Sailing Development Squad

Hi, it's Craig here and I would like to talk to you about my sailing.
I sail in a single handed one person boat called an optimist.

This is me sailing my boat

I have been sailing for many years now and have come to be in the top three at Glendowie boating club.
On Thursday the 11th of August I was chosen for the development squad. They choose the top 5 or 6, 11/12 year olds to train in Noumea with other children from Australia and the pacific islands. We are going to get concentrated training for ten days which will help me become a better sailor.
I leave on the 26th of November till the 6th of December 2011.

I am looking forward to sailing in the warm waters of Noumea.

  1. Hi Craig, I enjoyed reading your post about sailing and think it's wonderful that you've been selected to represent New Zealand. This is not an opportunity that many people get and you should be very proud of yourself. I am sure you have put many hours into your training so far, and it's obviously paid off! I look forward to reading more about this exciting opportunity. Well done!

  2. Craig, you are so fabulous!! You have shown such determination in your sailing - I know there have been many cold weekends when you probably didn't feel like being out on the water, but you've stuck with it and wow! Congratulations again on being selected - what an honor. Go you!! What a fabulous example of a Stonefields learner breaking through and reaching the heights of their potential :D Bring on the America's Cup huh!!

  3. Well done Craig. When I was your age all I could do was look at pictures of boats! When I left school the first thing I did was buy a boat and learn how to sail. You are very lucky to get this opportunity and have obviously worked hard to earn you place in the group. Make the most of the oppoertunity and just enjoy learning with others who share your passion.

  4. Well done. I started off in a similar way some 50 years ago and I have now sailed over 150,000 miles , the equivalent of over 5 times around the world. Stick to it and you'll be amazed what can happen.

  5. Well done Craig :) Sailing is a sport where your performance is totally dependant on you and the amount of time you invest in it. The more time you spend training and sailing the better you will get. I love your photo and I hope you are enjoying your Rooster Sailing Gear. Have a great time in Noumea and let me know if you and your parents need some help with anymore Rooster Sailing Gear for the trip. God Bless Mike
